14 things that will happen to you when you visit Cuba…

The Cuba Effect… I went to Cuba in June 2016, so just on the cusp of things starting to change. Isolated from the rest of the world in many ways, it really is such a unique and beautiful country. The people, the culture and the colours get under your skin, the laid back vibe is infectious and then there is the music! I came back totally in love with this country. If you are thinking of going don’t hesitate and go soon… and if you are already going then here are some of the things that will happen to you….

1. Every building is beautiful and you will want to photograph it…

2. Even if you have no interest in cars in your normal life, you will become obsessed with vintage Cuban cars…

3. You will love eating plantain for the first two days… then you will be over it!

4. You will find it perfectly acceptable to have a cocktail at 10am… well anytime really.

   5. You will drink more Mojitos than at any other time in your life…

6. You will find your outfit colour coordinates with a building at least once… especially in Trinidad.

7. You will hear someone somewhere playing one of these (I think it’s called a guiro) everywhere you go… and you’ll actually miss the sound when you return home.

8. You could be serenaded by an amazing four piece orchestra even at breakfast.

9. You will lose all your inhibitions and suddenly be able to salsa dance… or maybe it’s just the mojitos talking.

10. You will be spoilt for live music…

11. Even if you’ve never smoked, you will probably buy some cuban cigars…

12. People say you don’t go to Cuba for the food… I say come just for the fruit it’s amazing!!

13. You will probably buy something with either a Cuban flag or Che Guevara’s face on it… I bought the number plate with the flag.

  14. You will hope Cuba never changes…

Happy travels #cubaforever!
